Mercedes-AMG’s latest convertible, the S65 Cabriolet.
Mercedes-AMG just introduced what is, undoubtedly one of most spectacular convertibles to date, the S65 Cabriolet.
In addition to its silhouette and luxurious interior finishes, its numbers define the type of car it is: 630 hp, top speed of 300 km/h and an acceleration that gets the vehicle to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The Mercedes AMG S65 Cabriolet is therefore a sports car, above anything else.
The 577bhp twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine responsible for powering the four-wheel-drive model is also to thank for the figures we previously mentioned, despite the vehicle exceeding 2 tons of weight. The thoroughbred convertible accommodates the largest fabric roof applied to a current production car and can be opened and closed in a claimed 17 seconds at speeds of up to 37mph. This outstanding model has adopted a new windscreen with greater rake and a more substantial frame for added rollover protection, in order to house the multi-layer roof, which ensures a perfect thermal insulation, and is available in black, blue, grey or dark red.
The Mercedes AMG S65 Cabriolet’s exterior is sobre and elegant, just as its interior has been designed to merge sophistication with sport, resulting in beige leather upholstery with smart finishes, a three-spoke steering wheel and electrically adjustable seats with heaters on the neck and armrest areas. Double-glazed side windows and a butyl outer roof layer are claimed to provide class-leading noise suppression.
Developed in Mercedes’ new wind tunnel, the car, with the choice of two petrol engines, will be available for purchase at dealerships in May of next year and available for reservation a month in advance. It’s price is yet to be confirmed by Mercedes AMG but it will no doubt be high, both for the excellence of its design and manufacturing as well as for its exceptional performance.
